Sustainability Reports

Our Sustainability Report informs about our activities and developments in the area of sustainability at Faber-Castell.

The standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) serve as a guide and the principles of the UN Global Compact are taken into account.

Among other things, our Sustainability Report presents our carbon-neutral production with a detailed explanation of the emissions and energy consumption of our production sites. The figures relate to the 2020/21 fiscal year and are compared with the previous three fiscal years. Furthermore, we present our group-wide sustainability projects in Latin America, Europe and Asia until the end of 2021, in connection with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.

Our Sustainability Targets

Energy

We aim to keep reducing our company’s energy needs. To do so, we make every effort to switch to more energy-efficient equipment in all our international production sites.

Target

Reduction in energy consumption by 55% by 2029/30 (reference year 2019-20)
We want to work in an energy self-sufficient manner using independent, in-house energy supplies with renewable energy, for instance by installing solar collectors, heat
pumps or water turbines.

Target

Energy self-sufficient from 2034/45 (reference year 2019/20)

Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF)

We strive to continuously reduce the corporate carbon footprint of our global operation, by increasing energy efficiency, switching to renewable electricity supply and becoming energy-self sufficient.

Our target (baseline year 2019-20): Reduction of CCF by 55% in 2029-30

Energy

We intend to further reduce  our corporate energy demand by switching to more energy-efficient assets in all our production sites.

Our target (baseline year 2019-20): Reduction of energy consumption by 55% in 2029/30

We strive for energy self-sufficiency by implementing our own supply of renewable energy, for instance through installing solar panels, heat pumps or water turbines.

Our target (baseline year 2019-20): Energy self-sufficiency by 2034-35

Plastic

We plan to avoid plastic-based single-use packaging and, when-ever possible, substitute it with cardboard or other more environmentally friendly materials.

Our target (baseline year 2019/20): Reduction of virgin plastic for single-use packaging to below 5% in 2029/30

We aim to replace virgin plastics used in our products with alternatives such as recycled, bio-based or bio-degradable plastics without compromising quality.

Our target (baseline year 2019/20): Increase share of alternative plastics to 55% in 2029/30

Gender Equality

We want to establish an equal distribution of male and female leaders.

Our target (baseline year 2019/20): 50% share of female leadership roles in 2029/30
